I know it's tempting - but try to avoid meditating in your bed. Here's why …
I did this when I was learning to meditate. I mean why not? I was so comfortable! I sunk in nicely to the pillows that were propped up against my headboard. The blankets kept me warm while I meditated. Everything was just so dang comfy …
I know... it’s just all so tempting but here’s why we should avoid meditating in bed:
our spine needs to be straight (in a natural way) and not leaning against anything. This is because we have very important energy channels that run up and down the spine. These channels (or meridians) is how life force flows through our body. Leaning against a wall or chair can hinder that flow of energy. Slouching, lying down, or being in weird positions can cause problems. Ideally, we want to be sitting up with our backs off the chair or wall for the duration of our meditation.
if you’re consistent with your practice, meditating in the same spot every day will eventually build a pillar of light. This is exactly how it sounds. Meditation is like having an energetic shower. The energy is purifying, healing, can offer guidance and clarity. And the more you meditate in one spot, the more the energy will anchor. In many ways, this is beneficial because when you return to your meditation practice you’ll pick up right where you left off. It’ll be easier for your consciousness to expand. However, if this pillar of light gets anchored in the bed then it’s going to cause insomnia. The two just don’t mix.
it’s too easy to fall asleep! I know this happened to me back in the day. I can remember meditating in bed then suddenly I’m passed out drooling.
Wishing you all a wonderful practice and remember, no matter how tempting and cozy the bed is try to find somewhere else to meditate!
